Mrs Baldev Ahluwalia, who lives in Sandwell, is just one of 7,485* people at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes in the West Midlands.
But thanks to the NHS diabetes prevention programme, Mrs Ahluwalia has a new lease of life. Today, on World Diabetes Day, Mrs Ahluwalia wants to help raise awareness of the condition and how others at risk could avoid this life-threatening disease.
As temperatures drop, it is important people keep warm and well. Cold weather can kill and lead to serious health problems, such as heart attacks, strokes or pneumonia – those who are 65 or over, or who have a chronic health condition, are particularly at risk.
Embracing Self Care for Life is the theme of Self Care Week, the annual initiative which aims to help you stay healthy for your whole life.
Self Care Week takes place 13 – 19 November and is run by the Self Care Forum. The Self Care Forum aims to further the reach of self care and embed it into everyday life. It promotes improved awareness of services such as local pharmacies for minor ailments and advice about medications; flu vaccinations and improved management of long term conditions such as respiratory and heart conditions.
