When we talk about Intermediate Care, we understand it to be a 7 day a week service which includes "a range of integrated services to promote faster recovery from illness, prevent unnecessary acute hospital admission and premature admission to long-term residential care, support timely discharge from hospital and maximise independent living” (Intermediate Care - Halfway Home, DH 2009).
A tasty and healthy winter is in store for the residents of Sandwell and West Birmingham thanks to a new NHS ‘winter warmers’ recipe book.
NHS Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG has produced the book, which not only includes a number of recipes for nutritious and delicious dishes, but is also packed with helpful advice and information on staying well this winter.
The CCG is also delighted as Ella Mills, known worldwide as Deliciously Ella, has supported the idea and has produced two recipes for the book, one of which is a Christmas recipe not currently available in any of her books.
Ella has become something of a phenomenon recently with her cookbooks packed with simple, natural ingredients and fan base going from strength to strength. The food blogger’s debut book was the fastest selling debut cookbook in the UK. Ella is well known for her love of healthy nutritious food and has donated two exclusive winter recipes to the recipe book.
Local Head Coach, Tony Pulis is preparing himself for this winter by having the flu vaccination to ensure he is not laid up in bed withthe flu and not kept away from coaching the West Bromwich Albion football team.
Each year, Sandwell and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) encourages local patients – especially those with long-term health conditions – to take advantage of the flu vaccination programme. Patients with long-term health conditions, aged over 65, pregnant women and children up to the age of eight are entitled to a free flu vaccination from either their local GP or pharmacist. Carers of the elderly are also entitled to a free vaccination.
The hunt is on in Sandwell and West Birmingham for families who can join the NHS to share their real experiences of keeping healthy through the winter months and to describe first hand their accounts of the health care they receive from NHS services.
