Patients are being asked to help develop options for the future of some cancer services in Sandwell and West Birmingham. An event in West Bromwich next week on Thursday 16 May will be the third of a series of co-production events designed to ensure patient views influence the Cancer Review that is underway.

Services affected by the Cancer Review include Solid Tumour Oncology services for Lung, Upper GI, Gastroenterology, Colorectal, Breast and Gynecological cancers. It is also looking at how Acute Oncology is provided, as well as the future of the specialized Pan-Birmingham Gynae-Oncology Centre.

The Cancer Review recognises the importance of patient and carer engagement in the process, and is designed to identify options for a permanent solution that best meets the needs of our local population.

At previous events, patients were invited to share their personal experience of accessing services, suggestions on how the services could be run differently, as well as outline what is important to them and what the priorities should be for selecting the potential future options.

The third event will focus on the future of solid tumour oncology services in Sandwell and West Birmingham. Following previous patient, clinical and commissioner input a shortlist of options has been developed for the future delivery of solid tumour oncology services. Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG, working with behalf of NHS England, are asking patients to attend to share their views on the shortlisted options for the future of the service.

The event will take place on Thursday 16 May, from 10.00 a.m. until 1.00 p.m. at West Bromwich Albion Football Ground – The Hawthorns, West Bromwich, West Midlands, B71 4LD.
