Call for Mystery Shoppers to improve healthcare in Sandwell and West Birmingham

Sandwell and West Birmingham residents are being invited to become Mystery Shoppers as part of a new NHS initiative to improve the quality of healthcare in the area.

The Mystery Shoppers scheme has been launched by NHS Sandwell and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to help the CCG ensure that patients receive a good quality healthcare service supplied by local health providers.

A mystery shopper is a person who carries out a type of research to ensure patients are receiving the best quality service. This could be telephoning a GP practice, checking information on an NHS website or visiting an NHS building for example. The CCG would also like to hear from patients attending their own GP practice, health centre or hospital about their experiences through the scheme.

Ranjit Sondhi OBE, Chair of the Patient and Partnership Advisory Group for Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG, said:

“Patients are at the heart of everything we do and we have launched the Mystery Shoppers scheme to ensure that our patients benefit from consistent, high quality services.

“We have a strong history of improving care and we hope that many local people will volunteer to become Mystery Shoppers and share their experiences of local services.”

Local people can apply online at or contact the CCG’s engagement team at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call 0121 612 1447.

To volunteer to join the scheme, people need to be aged over 18 years old, use health services provided in the Sandwell and West Birmingham area, have access to a telephone and are available during the daytime to contact NHS services. People can volunteer for a couple of hours or up to a full day which will include preparation, conducting the research and reporting their findings back to the CCG.

As a thank you, the CCG will give mystery shoppers who submit their research back to the CCG thank you High Street shopping vouchers. Should mystery shoppers be asked to visit NHS premises, they will be able to claim public transport, car mileage and car parking expenses from the CCG.
