GPs in Sandwell and West Birmingham have overwhelmingly voted to retain the current commissioning boundary of their local clinical commissioning group - Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG.
At an extraordinary meeting today (26 June 2019), the CCG's Governing Body heard that 71% of GP members had chosen to remain as a single CCG covering Sandwell, Perry Barr and Ladywood with a view to becoming part of a single commissioning voice for the Black Country and West Birmingham.
The Governing Body will discuss the impact of the vote on local healthcare at its scheduled meeting next week (3 July 2019*). However, Accountable Officer Andy Williams said: 'While our commissioning boundary remains the same, this does not mean business as usual.
'As a CCG we must continue to develop robust relationships with our health and local authority partners across Birmingham and the Black Country to ensure we can continue to improve healthcare for local people in Sandwell, Ladywood and Perry Bar.
'This includes delivering our drive for stronger GP services and the development of the Midland Metropolitan Hospital, supported by services that are more appropriately delivered at scale across Birmingham and the Black Country.'
The successful option states: SWB CCG boundary remains the same and the CCG is integrated into the single commissioning structure for the Black Country and West Birmingham STP.
*The Governing Body meeting will be held on 3 July from 1.45pm – 4.00pm at The Board Room, 2F Kingston House, West Bromwich, B70 9LD. Members of the public are welcome to attend.
