New Chair appointed at NHS Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG

Dr Ian Sykes has been appointed the new Chair of NHS Sandwell and West Birmingham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). Ian has spent all his working life as a GP in the Sandwell and West Birmingham area and has served on the CCG’s Governing Body for the last four years.

Ian’s one-year GP training post was in Kings Heath, Birmingham and he entered into a GP partnership at Oakham surgery in Tividale, Sandwell in 1992. The rsz dr ian sykessurgery has now become part of the Your Health Partnership and Ian continues to be a GP partner. The Your Health Partnership provides a range of primary and secondary care services to approximately 46,000 patients across Sandwell.

Ian has also been a successful GP Trainer and taught Medical Students from Birmingham University. He has a wealth of experience in medical management. Ian was a Medical Director and Chair of an out of hours co-operative in Dudley and he has held a number of key leadership roles within NHS Sandwell and West Birmingham CCG.

Speaking of his appointment, Dr Ian Sykes said:

“I would like to thank Professor Nick Harding for his outstanding contribution as Chair of the CCG. Under his leadership the CCG has been able to make a step change in local health through partnership and innovation.

“Although it came as a surprise when Nick told me he would be resigning, I felt very excited and also honoured to be able to take over as CCG Chair.

“It was very humbling as well as positive that I was given the unanimous support from the CCG Governing Body Board when I was formally chosen, and which I really appreciate. I'm really looking forward to the challenge and working with such a fantastic team at the CCG who are dedicated to improving patient care.”
