With Christmas and New Year fast approaching GPs across the Black Country and West Birmingham are reminding people to plan ahead by stocking up their medicine cabinets and ordering repeat prescriptions if needed.
To help everyone to stay well over the Christmas period it is important to make sure we have available simple self-care medication, in anticipation of reduced opening times, bad weather or sickness.
Those who take regular medication should make sure they have ordered enough medication to last through the festive period.
Dr Steve Mann, GP and Clinical Lead from Dudley CCG, said, “No one wants to run out of medication over the Christmas break.
“Make sure you have everything you need to deal with minor health problems, and medication for your long term conditions at home, so you can make the most of Christmas with family and friends.”
Patients can also download the NHS App which allows them to register with their GP practice to request repeat prescriptions online as well as book appointments and have access to some of their health records.
Medicine cabinet essentials include:
- painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen, including a version for children
- over-the-counter cough, cold, flu and indigestion remedies
- antiseptic cream
- rehydration granules
