NHS Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) service is the easy way for patients to order their repeat prescriptions.
POD operating times are Monday – Friday 09.00am – 16.00pm (excluding weekends and Bank Holidays).
The number to call is 0121 203 2030.
Please note: Mondays are our busiest day, and our lines are always very busy during the first two hour of any day (09.00 – 11.00am) Lines are usually less busy between 12.00 and 16.00pm on Wednesdays, Thursday and Fridays.
Currently, there are six GP practices in SWB CCG that are signed up to the POD service. These are:
Enki Medical Centre & St. James Medical Centre
Smethwick Medical Centre
Broadway Health Centre
Fiveways Health Centre
Portway Lifestyle Centre
Soho Road Primary Care Centre (Dr Bathla’s & Partners)
This is a dedicated service where patients can call and request their repeat prescriptions and speak to an experienced trained prescription clerk or a member of the CCG’s Medicines Quality team. All requests should be made seven days before running out of your current medication.
Any information shared over the telephone will be kept confidential.
All requests made to POD will be reviewed by a GP and, once it has been approved, the request will be sent to the nominated pharmacy or collected within 48 hours. Please note you should allow at least five days for your pharmacy to dispense and get your prescription ready. However, sometimes this can be sooner and you can contact your pharmacy to check 48 hours after request has been made.
What do I do when POD is closed?
Patients needing urgent medication outside of normal POD opening times should contact their GP practice or speak to a pharmacist about getting an emergency prescription.
Why use POD?
POD is a convenient way to request repeat medication, the POD service will also ensure that patients are only prescribed the correct and appropriate amount of medicine required.
This will help to reduce unnecessary waste across Sandwell & West Birmingham CCG. The NHS waste is estimated around £3 million every year.
Patients whose prescription is normally delivered direct to their home by their nominated pharmacy will still be able to use POD to order new or existing medication.
